A little traveling music please…

Roll Out The Barrel (The Beer Barrel Polka)

July 6, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Just a short post for today, since it was primarily a travel day as we journeyed from Dearborn north on I-75 to Mackinaw City, Michigan, for an overnight stay before boarding the ferry over to Mackinac Island tomorrow morning for a 2-day visit.

We did stop for a few hours this afternoon in Frankenmuth, Michigan, which is a quaint little Bavarian town in the heart of Michigan. Caren had discovered Frankenmuth while surfing the internet prior to leaving for our trip, but we weren’t quite sure what to expect. It turned out to be a bustling town, with shops and Bavarian-style inns and restaurants crowded into a short stretch of Main Street. There was live German music (and couples dancing) at an outdoor bar and the sidewalks were filled with people. Horse-drawn carriages passed up and down the street.  All in all, it was a fun few hours to break up a 4 to 5 hour drive.

Today was another beautiful sunny day, but unfortunately the local forecast calls for scattered thunderstorms over the next two days. We’re hoping they’re wrong.

Stay tuned…
